2024 Chevy Suburban Full-Size SUV Review

The contemporary Chevrolet Suburban is a 12th-generation model that debuted in 2021. With the 2024 Suburban due to arrive shortly, we expect the large SUV to be a carryover model without any major changes.

Chevrolet is not anticipated to make any exterior design changes to the 2024 Suburban for the new model year. The next generation of the large SUV will retain the same daring exterior design as the current model.

The Suburban has a grille with a split design, C-shaped running lamps, and a sturdy front bumper. The Suburban’s rear features a small rear deflector, rectangular taillights, and a bulky bumper.

Specs

Therefore, the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will continue to offer the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine for the time being.

In conjunction with the refresh, it was anticipated that both SUVs would offer the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine as a successor for the 3.0L I6 LM2. This is no longer the case, as the refresh is now expected to debut at a later date.

Both SUVs also offer a pair of gasoline-powered engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 and 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engines. Each SUV is supported by the GM T1 platform.

Update

Since its debut in 1935, the Suburban has been manufactured continuously longer than any other vehicle in the United States. The 2021-debuted 12th-generation truck is still a large metal box on a pickup frame, but the Suburban now features a multilink rear suspension instead of the Silverado’s leaf-sprung solid axle for a smoother ride and more passenger space.

According to internet speculations, the 2024 Suburban is expected to receive a mild facelift that will include revised front and rear styling, new head- and taillights, and optional 24-inch wheels. In addition, a more potent diesel engine will replace the current one on the options list, and the dashboard will be redesigned extensively to integrate the latest GM infotainment technology.

In addition to its lengthy history, the success of the Suburban formula is demonstrated by the number of derivatives sold by General Motors. If you purchase a Tahoe or a Suburban, a GMC Yukon or Yukon XL, or a Cadillac Escalade or Escalade ESV, you will receive the same vehicle in one of two configurations with varying features.

The Suburban is 15 inches longer than the Tahoe and has 16 cubic feet more cargo space behind the third-row seats. Fold down the second and third rows, and you have more than 140 cubic feet of space, making the Suburban one of America’s most spacious non-van vehicles.

Contrary to vans, the Suburban is much more than a large metal cage. Depending on trim level and options, the vehicle can range from relatively comfortable to opulent. Check back with Edmunds during the summer as we learn more about the 2024 Suburban’s official features.

  • Massive interior means ample capacity for passengers and cargo
  • Available diesel engine substantially improves fuel economy.
  • Superior hauling capacity
  • Exterior design modifications are probable for 2024
  • Possible interior modifications, including an Updated Entertainment System
  • Optional diesel powerplant could have greater output

Redesign

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban were redesigned for the 2021 model year, and it is no longer anticipated that the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will introduce significant modifications over the 2023 model year.

The refreshed Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban are anticipated to début in 2025, if not later. Now, GM Authority knows when dealers will be able to place orders for the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2024 Chevrolet Suburban.

According to GM Authority sources, dealers will be able to submit new orders for the 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban commencing Thursday, September 28th, 2023. Production of both SUVs is anticipated to begin on November 6, 2023. Production of vehicles for the 2023 model year will once again take place at the GM Arlington facility in Texas.

According to previous GM Authority coverage, the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2024 Chevrolet Suburban were initially anticipated to receive a substantial refresh consisting of numerous updates and modifications.

However, new information emerged later indicating that the refreshed SUVs would not debut until at least the 2025 model year.

Refresh

The current fifth-generation Chevy Tahoe and twelfth-generation Chevy Suburban debuted for the 2021 model year, with a mid-cycle enhancement (also known as a refresh) for both SUVs originally scheduled for the 2024 model year.

Now, however, GM Authority has learned that neither the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe nor the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will receive a model refresh. Rather, both SUVs will be updated for model year 2025, or possibly even later.

The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will debut as the fourth model year for the respective SUV’s current generation. GM Authority has learned that the full-size SUV lineup will not receive a comprehensive model redesign for the 2024 model year, contrary to what was previously believed.

Despite the fact that the refreshed Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban will not arrive for the 2024 model year, both SUVs will receive a refresh in the future. When they do arrive, the redesigned Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban will feature the standard revisions and modifications.

Among these will be a redesign of the front fascia, which will likely include a two-tiered illumination system for greater differentiation between the top and bottom trim levels. In addition, we anticipate a new roof-mounted antenna fin and new 24-inch-wide options.

The modifications will continue inside, where the updated Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban will feature a larger infotainment screen and redesigned center stack.

Under the hood, the SUVs will once again offer the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, while the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax offered presently will be replaced by the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax. Once again, the GM T1 platform will provide the underpinnings, and the vehicle will be manufactured at the GM Arlington facility in Texas

Interior

Inside, the current Chevrolet Suburban capitalizes on its boxy exterior with a spacious interior that can accommodate up to nine passengers. The SUV has three rows of spacious seats and a massive cargo area that can hold up to 144.7 cubic feet of cargo. Chevrolet’s designers gave the Suburban a robust, truck-oriented appearance.

The central display of the SUV is positioned in front of the instrument panel, while the lower portion of the center console is equipped with sizable physical controls. It is anticipated that the interior design of the 2024 Suburban will remain unaltered for the new model year.

When it comes to tech features, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to come with similar features as the current SUV that’s on sale. Currently, the Suburban is equipped with a touchscreen measuring eight inches, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless integration, six audio speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot, six USB outlets, and satellite radio.

There should be a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, a wireless charging station, and two 12.6-inch touchscreens in the rear seats.

Powertrain

Chevrolet offers three powertrains for the current Suburban. The base powerplant is a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade options include a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The last available engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Every engine features a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Optional all-wheel drive is present. The Suburban can transport up to 8,300 pounds when appropriately outfitted. It is not anticipated that these powertrains will change by 2024.

The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to come with the same safety features as the current SUV that’s on sale. Currently, the SUV is equipped with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam assist, and parking sensors.

Available safety features include a surround-view parking camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and Super Cruise.

Models

The Chevrolet Suburban is available in six specification levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The majority of these variants are equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft) and a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. Four-wheel drive is available on all specification levels, with the exception of the Z71, where it is standard.

There are two additional motors available: A 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft) is available as an option on the RST, Z71, and Premier models, while it is standard on the High Country. Optional on every Suburban trim except the Z71 is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder diesel engine.

2024 Suburban Price

The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will likely go into production in early November 2023, according to fleet production schedules. Without significant adjustments, pricing for the 2024 Suburban should remain close to the current range of $59,095 to $79,745 (MSRP).
