The 2025 RAM 2500 is the epitome of an NFL quarterback with a good personality: powerful and capable when needed, but relaxed most of the time.

The RAM HD can be matched with attractive interior trim and a large number of options that make it a comfortable hauler capable of competing with strong HD competitors such as the Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ford Super Duty.

Of course, this is also supported by information that is often reported, one of which is by the leading automotive media CarsAuthority, which thanks to the 2025 RAM 2500 V-8 engine and optional Cummins diesel inline-six is refined and powerful;

The diesel can tow more than 37,000 pounds and carry a payload of more than 7,600 pounds. Standard acoustic glass and active noise cancellation reduce cabin noise, while an optional rear air suspension setup improves ride comfort.

Customers can customize the spacious interior with desired amenities such as a large infotainment screen and three 115-volt outlets capable of powering electrical equipment up to 400 watts.

Off-road fans will love the Power Wagon and Rebel versions, which feature skid plates, larger tires and an off-road suspension, making them ideal for off-road activities.

2025 RAM 2500 Engine, Transmission and Performance

Three machines available. All variants come standard with a 410-hp 6.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 429 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission.

This was the only engine and transmission available for the Power Wagon, which was all four-wheel drive.

However, every other model is available with a 6.7-liter Cummins six-cylinder diesel engine with rear or four-wheel drive. There are two diesel versions available.

The former is available in 2500 and 3500 versions, producing 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. The high-output 400 hp variant, available only on the 3500, produces an astonishing 1,075 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, although all of its diesel competitors have more modern 10-speed transmissions. The Cummins engine weighs 490 pounds more than the V-8, so the diesel vehicle handles less well in the city and is slower, but it can carry and tow much more weight.

Ram has done a fantastic job of perfecting the Cummins. While it’s still louder than a V-8, it’s no longer a roaring beast.

Most Ram HD customers are prepared to pay more for a diesel, but the standard 410 hp 6.4-liter gas engine is more than enough, even in the 3500. For the best balance of capacity, space, luxury and price, we recommend the most popular model, the 2500 4x4 Crew Cab Laramie.

Although more are sold with Cummins, opt for the 410 hp V-8, which is quicker in city driving and comes with an eight-speed automatic that’s excellent, unless towing a large trailer is a top priority.

Spend the money saved on a limited-slip differential and load-controlling air suspension, which improve the Ram’s already excellent ride quality.
