2024 Nissan Maxima is a type of car that is not a sports type. However, it’s surprisingly fast and feels more premium than its badge suggests. The Maxima competes with midsize sedans like the Honda Accord and full-size vehicles like the Kia Stinger.

Many already know that the 2024 Maxima is Nissan’s flagship car. The Maxima, like most of its predecessors (RIP Toyota Avalon), will be phased out after this year. That’s the information we got in one of the online Nissan Model Media published on the 2024 Nissan Maxima page. But we’re confident the Maxima’s dimensions will be comparable to the less expensive Altima and certainly price competitive with full-size rivals like the Dodge Charger.

2024 Nissan Maxima Engine

Part of the Maxima’s price goes to performance. The 300-hp V-6 makes ample power, and driving characteristics are generally sharp. However, the steering is too heavy and the Maxima’s front-wheel-drive chassis means it can’t compete with the Kia Stinger.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2023 Maxima comes with just one powertrain: a naturally aspirated V-6, CVT, and front-wheel drive. The engine produces 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, more than any Honda Accord.

Acceleration to 60 mph takes about 6 seconds, which is a fast time for a midsize sedan. The Nissan Altima SR VC-Turbo is just as fast, while the Kia Stinger GT is even faster.

Fuel economy is 20/30 mpg city/highway. That’s low for the class, as the Altima, Accord, Camry, and Stinger are all more efficient.

2024 Nissan Maxima Security

Maxima excels when it comes to safety. The IIHS gave it a Top Safety Pick+ rating, and the NHTSA gave it five stars in all categories.

The active safety features are no less extraordinary. All trim levels have automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams and driver attention monitoring. SR and Platinum trim levels have lane-keeping assist and a surround-view camera system.

2024 Nissan Maxima Interior

The rest goes to the interior trim, which feels more luxurious than the majority of Nissan’s lineup. The Maxima, especially in Platinum trim, justifies its flagship status with a beautiful and luxurious interior.

The Maxima’s cabin, while comfortable, is smaller than most competitors. The Honda Accord, Dodge Charger, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima all have better cargo space and rear legroom.

These issues make the $40,000 price tag harder to swallow. The Maxima may not be around for much longer, but Nissan has hinted at an electric replacement.

2024 Nissan Maxima Technology

The Maxima SV is equipped with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. This technology is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation and Wi-Fi hotspot are standard. Upper trims include Bose sound, active noise cancellation, and two additional USB connections.

2024 Nissan Maxima Price

The 2023 Maxima is offered in three trim levels: base SV, sporty SR, and luxurious Platinum. Prices range from $40,000 to $45,000.

2024 Nissan Maxima Trim

The SV is capable and well-equipped, but its value suffers when compared with larger, more affordable competitors. The SR adds performance features like paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension, but they’re not enough to offset the Maxima’s understated stance.

We prefer the Maxima in Platinum version. It includes luxury features such as diamond-quilted leather seating, heated rear seats, and wood-tone décor. When we tested the Maxima Platinum in 2020, we found it to be a great alternative to the ubiquitous crossover.
